Career Advice from Above

28 Feb 2017
You're a fresh new graduate with the whole world before you!  You have dreams of a blossoming career, prestige and a good foundation to start a family later on in life.  Are you filled with excitement, anxiety or blahs?

Or maybe you are taking a break or resigned from your first job and still trying to figure out where your true place in the sun is?

What determines which job you will pursue?

"I'll take the first job that hires me."
"I'll take the highest paying job."
"I'll take the job my parents want for me."
"I'll take the job that's closest to home."
"I'll take the job that allows me to travel."
"I'll take the job I enjoy the most."
"I'll take any job!"

Which of the above statements sounds like you?

Pursuing your dreams doesn't come with step by step manuals. There are a lot of roads that we can take to get there.  Along the way, we can get discouraged if we don't really know where we are going, or even where we want to go.

Here is where we turn to the One who knows us the best, and who wants to give us the BEST LIFE!

Everyone wants a life of fullness and abundance.  So how do we get it?

There was a young lady who was planning to be a teacher once she graduated.  But after some mishaps at school, ended up as a housewife instead.  As time passed, the desire in her heart grew - and she prayed to the Lord for a business.  That is the story of Mrs. Socorro Alejandro, the founder of Papemelroti.

She only wanted a business where she could sell her crafts but never imagined one that would touch the lives of countless Filipinos.

Sometimes our plans are not God's plans for us.  So we need to do the first step - to commit our future to the Lord.  We may not see it at first but God always keeps His promises and He will establish our feet in a solid career.

Dedicating your work to the Lord does not mean leaving it all to Him and not lifting an inch.  We are responsible for our future and we need to pray, reflect, know ourselves and our gifts and talents as well as our weaknesses so we can make the best decisions.  At no point must we twiddle our thumbs and be lazy.  Chasing fantasies will get us nowhere.  See the bible verse below.

So we know that the road to a successful career or business is to let God be your working "partner".  Don't leave Him out of the picture.  We also know that it takes hard work to get to where we want to be in life.  Then what?

Sometimes people are afraid of giving their lives to the Lord for fear He will make them monks or ask them to give away everything (which is not all that impossible) - but they fail to see that God is the one who gives us great dreams.  He places seeds of greatness in our hearts so we can pursue them and do mighty deeds in the world!

We need not fear what He will tell us when we listen.  Whatever our deepest, most authentic selves long for, God is speaking through those desires.  Let's not ignore them!

Most of all, let us not allow doubts or discouragements to dwell in our thoughts.  Remember that you can do ALL THINGS, through Christ who strengthens you! (Philippians 4:13)  Did you get that?  ALL THINGS!  Not just some things, not just the usual things!  But ALL THINGS!

Once you have rid yourself of all negativity, now is the time to act!

Get your resume ready!  Join job fairs!  Ask around for the best job opportunities!  Research!  There are a multitude of resources available to us now in the information age compared to decades ago!

If you don't get the job of your dreams at first, don't give up!  Keep at it while you hone your skills and learn all you can from other jobs.   Along the way, you'll find out what your purpose and mission in life is!

If you're not happy with the job you have or the job you get, it could also be that we need to learn and grow our abilities and when the time comes, we will be ready for the opportunities that God will give us.

Finally, in all that you do, know and claim God's promises for you!  He said that He will instruct us and teach us in the way we should go.  If we keep ourselves free from the love of money, power, fame, we will not crowd out the voice of God speaking to our hearts.  Isn't it exciting that the Maker of the universe wants to guide us in the way we should go?

We at papemelroti pray that your way will be blessed!  We wish you all the joy!  May you find the job that you love - so you don't have to work a day in your life!
