2006 Graduation E-newsletter
16 Mar 2006
Dear Friend,
Whether it's moving up day for your pre-schooler or finishing up your own masteral degree, graduation means growth and change for the better. Even if you've said your farewells to your textbooks a long time ago, we hardly ever stop learning from the university of life.
It all depends on the subjects you choose to take. Do you take up advanced courses in Patience, Compassion and Hope or go to the more popular classes on Money, Popularity and Beauty? What have you been learning lately? What grades do you get at the end of the semester?
Another question we can ask ourselves is if we are bus-riders or jeep-takers. By buses and jeeps, I don't mean what mode of travel we use everyday but rather how we get to where we want to go using life's roads.
A bus-rider is willing to go the distance just to meet other travelers at the designated bus stop rather than the jeep-taker who takes his ride anywhere he pleases (even sometimes in the middle of the road). The bus-rider has to wait for the other riders to fill the bus before he can go his way while the jeep-taker lets other people wait 'til he gets on before they can all finish their journey.
As this season of Lent moves along, may we take a moment to reflect on what 'subjects' we've signed up for and what 'diploma' we're hoping to get at the end of the course. May we each hear "Well done, good and faithful servant" on our graduation day!
"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Phil 3:14)

Lent: A Time to Begin
Lent is the Old English word for "spring", a time when all of nature begins to show signs of life again after the harsh cold of winter. In our spiritual life, it is a chance to begin anew in our friendship with God and purge ourselves of excesses to have more room in our lives for Him.
