World Teacher's Day is celebrated every year on October 5!  We want to honor all teachers everywhere! 

In the Philippines, if you ask a little child what they want to be when they grow up, many say "a teacher"! 

Did you know that there is one teacher who has been internationally acclaimed and even has an asteroid named after her?

This is Asteroid 12341 Biyo.  This was named after one of the BEST TEACHERS in the Philippines by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Lincoln Laboratory.

She is teacher Josette Biyo from Iloilo.  She taught biology, science and many other subjects.  She is the first Filipino and Asian to win the Intel Excellence in Teacher Award. 

Despite many honors and a position at a prestigious private university, she chose to serve in a rural public school.  There, her knowledge of herbs and plants improved the people's health.

When questioned about her decision, she replied "But who will teach our children?"

A saying goes that, "Love is the core of teaching."  Indeed the story of Josette Biyo inspires us to use our vocation not for fame, wealth or power, but for the greater good.
