How to Decorate your Walls

Right in front of you is a blank wall. You stare at it thoughtfully. You turn your head to the left and then turn your head to the right. The wall is still blank.
You look at wall decor pieces and you either like them or not. You want to use them but don't know how or where to put them.
Is this you? Don't fret, you can do it! We'll help you! This is not rocket science! Here are some tips to get you started in making your home or office the very best it can be!
We even have some practice walls for your to decorate online - at the end of this post. But before that...
First things first. Here we go.
#1 FOCUS ON YOUR GOAL
Fill in the blanks:
I want to create a space that makes me feel _____________. When someone comes inside the room, I want them to say ____________. If I close my eyes and envision the perfect room, this is what I see __________________.
What you just did was to CREATE YOUR GOAL.
You want a space that makes you feel at ease? energetic? inspired? happy? Whatever it is, you need to keep your goal at the top of your mind to be able to move forward.
The colors of your room do much to progress with this goal. Light colors make your room feel more spacious and dark colors make it feel smaller.
#2 SELECT YOUR PIECES
You may have heard the popular term of Marie Kondo, "Does it spark joy?" Well, you should select decorative objects that spark joy! Otherwise, your room will just be blah, don't you think?

The wall decor you select will depend on the size of your wall area. The center of your wall is where you put the FOCAL POINT because that is where the eyes are drawn to first.
It can be a large wall plaque or mirror or it can also be a cluster of wall objects.
If you have 2 large wall plaques, these can be put side by side to create a sort of group that takes the place of 1 large plaque.
Generally, the wall decor should leave spaces at the sides so that the room won't seem cluttered. But do whatever floats your boat!
#3 SELECT YOUR ACCENTS
If you only have a couple of picture frames which are all like squares and rectangles, it is preferable to add other shapes to add interest to your decor.
This design feature somewhat resembles the male and female aesthetic which complements each other. The "male" items are straight and hard objects and the "female" types of decor are either round or flowing such as hanging plants, mobiles, round clocks, figurines to put on a shelf.
#4 PUT THEM TOGETHER
It goes without saying that sometimes we love things individually but they just don't look good together. You will need to put together things that somehow look well side by side.
As a rule, bright objects that have a modern feel do not look good with antique and rustic themed things. Be aware that you can still decorate with these but their placement makes a big difference.
Not sure what it will look like? Lay it down on the floor side by side. You can also do some sketches. Practice makes perfect!
