Honoring Lolo and Lola

In the Philippines, we greet our Grandparents in a very unique way. The "Mano po" gesture has been around for hundreds of years. Where did it come from?
Some say its origins date back to Spanish times when gallant men would bow to kiss the hand of a beautiful lady. It was a gentle way of expressing affection.
Today, it is reserved for our elders as a sign of respect. It is taught to children at a very young age so they can use this time-honored tradition to acknowledge those older (and wiser) than us.
Do you still do the "Mano po"?
This July 26 is the celebration for Grandparents and the Elderly. This means that all our elderly relatives get the chance to be acknowledged and honored!
This year, Pope Leo XIV said the theme will be "I will not forget you". The theme was made to "emphasize how God's love for every person never fails, not even in the frailty of old age."
What do you plan to do that day?
How about writing them a letter?
Sending them a card?
Sing a song with them and make a video?
Record their favorite stories?
Treat them with their favorite food?
There are a lot of wonderful activities one can do on that special day! There is no time better than now to show them you care!
