A Pencil and a Dream Tutorial

22 Feb 2013

My son is graduating from High School
and going off to college
along with so many other hopeful students.
Most of them have dreams
and are looking forward to the future!

Here is a simple gift to make and give
to a graduate-

All you need are pencils, bookpaper,
white glue, a cutter,
ribbons and a tag made of cardboard or cardstock.

First cut the bookpaper the same length as your pencil-
from the end of the eraser band to a little past the sharpened edge.
The width should be just enough to wrap around the pencil
with just a little extra to overlap.
Apply glue to the paper and wrap around the pencil,
making sure to remove the excess glue
by rolling the pencil back and forth.

 Dry the glue very well.
When the glue is dry,
use a cutter to sharpen the pencil.
Be sure to include parts of the bookpaper.
It's not going to be very neat,
but that's part of its charm!

Now  here is the fun part-
embellishing!

I  like to use recycled materials.
Here are bits of yarn from an old sweater
which I unravelled.
And a tag I cut from a old card.

I used different kinds of pencils-
see the different colored erasers!

And I found just the right quotation to write on the tag-
"A #2 pencil and a dream
can take you anywhere,"
by Joyce Meyer.

So whether you are a new graduate or not,
NEVER EVER give up on your dreams!

"For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11
