Make Your Own Dream Board for the New Year!

30 Nov 2016
by PATRICIA PATERNO

I’ve done Dream Boards before, but always in a separate notebook I looked at very seldom. Recently a friend said she put hers in her planner and I thought that was brilliant!
So I decided to do one for myself and share it with you.

I used our Anniversary planner, of course!  As there wasn’t a blank page, I covered the page I would least use with gesso. Then I painted over it with acrylic.

I was also considering just covering it with cardstock, or some nice plain paper.

Next, I had to think and pray what I would like to put in it. The thing about a Dream Board is you have to take it seriously! It’s like mapping out your year with God. As a matter of fact, some people do call it a Life Map.

Planning without God in mind is foolhardy. As it says in a favorite verse, Psalm 127:1,
“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.”

Unless the Lord builds our life, we labor in vain, and all our plans go to waste! When goals and plans are written down, they have power.

Take a tip from Bo Sanchez, who said, “Every morning, I read my life mission, my list of dreams, and my annual goals.”

When Bo was very young, he had a very detailed list of his goals and plans. He made a “Dream Board”. He wanted to build a home for the poorest of the poor. He imagined a large plot of land with many homes. He even saw a rice field, fishpond and coconut trees.

After several years, Anawim, a place specially for abandoned elderly people, is now a reality in Montalban, complete with the rice field, fishpond and coconut trees!

After thinking about what we want to happen for the year, we gather up materials we can use. Pens, markers, rubber stamps, washi tape, magazine clippings, glue, paint, stickers, etc.

When your goals and plans are written down, this is the first step towards fulfilling your dreams and plans for 2017.

In Mark 11:23 it says, “You will have what you say.” How much more if we have a visual record of what we want to happen!

Each one of us is unique and we will have a very unique dream board or life map. Whatever we create will be an expression of our uniqueness!

When you go through magazines, cut out words, phrases or pictures that resonate with you, that have meaning for you.

Consider your gifts, talents, strengths, and resources that you have available. What do you want to develop, to grow? Where do you want to bloom?

Arrange the pictures and words in a way that makes sense to you. Glue it on your page.
Don’t be so much a perfectionist that you get stuck. Have faith that God is helping you all the way.

I know that God has a dream and a plan for each of us. It is exciting to work with God to make that come true.

When I was making this, I was wondering why I put my goals about being more intentional with my relationships at the bottom of the page? Did I subconsciously consider my relationships of lesser importance than my art and what I hoped to accomplish? This disturbed me until I saw what God wanted me to see!

FAITH, HOPE and LOVE!!!
