December 21, 1963 - November 5, 2024
On November 5, 2024, Robert Alejandro, the "RO" in papemel-RO-ti, joined his parents, Corit and Benny Alejandro, in the great beyond that awaits all of humanity. He was 60 years old.
Though Robert said in an interview that he does not really care if he is forgotten after his passing, the bright spark from his extraordinary life will forever remain.
It was a life well-lived for others. Whether it was teaching art to kids who lived under a bridge in ATD (All Together in Dignity), sketching strangers on the street and gifting them with these free portraits sharing his illustrations for free to support Vice President Leni Robredo's campaign or supporting our furry friends through PAWS (The Philippine Animal Welfare Society), he generously shared his talents.
Some call him a "hero" and some call him a national "heart"-ist. His kind, humble, and loving nature has made him a beloved figure in the local arts community. His work has elevated Philippine design to greater heights and has contributed to a resurgence of patriotism and nationalism.
After valiantly battling stage 4 colon cancer for 8 years, God finally called him home. His passing was peaceful and miraculously pain-free. Doctors told the family that there was "no medical explanation" for this. We know that it could only be because of the countless prayers said for him by many.
And so we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the unwavering support you have shown to the Alejandro and papemelroti family during this time.
To honor and cherish Robert's memory, we will continue to release products that feature his art, ensuring that his legacy lives on for many years to come. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
