Lent 2024: 40 Days of Grace
The most important season for Christians is upon us!
A Prayer for Pardon
from the Ancient Collect, 6th century
O Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Your life for us that we might receive pardon and peace; mercifully cleanse us from all sin, and evermore keep us in Your favor and love, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
A Prayer for Mercy
from the Gregorian Sacramentary, 6th century
O God, the Protector of all that trust in You, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy, increase and multiply upon us Your mercy; that, You being our Ruler and Guide, we may so pass through things temporal that we finally lose not the things eternal. Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake our Lord. Amen.
Lenten Prayer
by Saint Ephrem
O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk.
But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Your servant.
Yes, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed are You, unto ages of ages. Amen.
A Prayer for the Afflicted and Distressed
from Saint Anselm, 11th century
We bring before Thee, O Lord, the troubles and perils of people and nations, the sighing of prisoners and captives, the sorrows of the bereaved, the necessities of strangers, the helplessness of the weak, the despondency of the weary, the failing powers of the aged. O Lord, draw near to each; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
An Easter Prayer
from the 7th century, Mozarabic Sacramentary
A prayer we often pray is "We love You Lord, help us to love You more".
May this Lenten season be for you a great big stepping stone that will bring you closer to God. You'll find that being closer to Him who is the source of all LOVE, JOY, PEACE, and all things GOOD brings you more of these as well.
